License Requirements

Image of study How to earn your real estate license in North Carolina:

Be 18 years old
Take the 80-Hour Prelicensing Course and pass with a minimum of 80% on your final exam in the course.
Fill-out your North Carolina Real Estate Commisison application and submit it along with your course certificate of passing, a criminal background check and application fee.
The Real Estate Commission will review your application and advise you that you may test.
Schedule your test with a testing center and pass the state exam by 75%.
Take the three 30-hour Postlicensing Courses within the next three years, along with your annual continuing education requirements (8 hours).

80 Hour Course will prepare you for the North Carolina State Real Estate Licensing Exam.

$395 (*includes books and materials.)

If you passed the North Carolina Real Estate Exam before September 30, 2005, this 24-hour course is required to change your license status from provisional broker to full broker. Your license pocket card will say "PBT".

4 weeks of classes with no state exam required.
$200 plus book

30 -hour course for those who passed their North Carolina State Licensing Exam after October 1, 2005.
Certificate upon completion.
Final Exam for course required.
4 weeks of classes with no state exam required.

The Outer Banks School of Real Estate is an official Sponsor for Continuing Education. As required by the North Carolina Real Estate Commission, licensees must take eight (8) hours per year in order to maintain active status of their real estate licenses.
